Andaman & Nicobar Islands Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights
The Andaman and Nicobar islands are located in the Bay of Bengal and are form a Union Territory, expanding over a distance of 750 km. Andaman & Nicobar is a combination of 572 islands with the northern most point being close to Myanmar while the Southern side is close to Indonesia. However, out of 572 islands only 37 are inhabited and only 19 of them have been electrified so far. So far, the chief source of energy generation here are Diesel and hydro based plants. As of FY 2016, only 5MWp of solar was installed in the islands. For a more recent data, a total of 5.40 MW has been commissioned. With very limited industries, the state's 83% consumer base comprises of domestic consumers. It is worth noting that Andaman & Nicobar Islands have the highest installed capacity so far in India among the islands located.
