Puducherry Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights
Puducherry, also known as Pondicherry is a Union territory located in the southern part of India. The Union Territory is enclosed by the states of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. It is one of the most populated Union Territories in the country and is a popular tourist destination in the country. Puducherry has a commissioned solar power of .03MW but none of this was commissioned in the last Financial year 2016/17. There was a masterplan been developed in the year 2014 to make Puducherry a 'Solar City' but that has so far not taken off given the rather disappointing performance of the UT. A Puducherry Solar Power Policy was drawn in the year 2015. According to the policy, the UT will aim to make solar energy a mainstream energy source by the year 2025. To all the customers who are going with solar, net-metering facility has been made available. By the Financial Year 2019 the UT will aim to add 96MW of solar power in phased manner. Until its own solar projects come up, the UT has been in talks for power purchase from solar projects outside the UT. So far, few hotels and commercial buildings have been setup with rooftop solar water heaters.
