Sikkim Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights

Sikkim is a state located in the North-Eastern part of India and is shares its borders with China, Bhutan and Nepal. It is the least populated state in India and has its capital in Gangtok. Sikkim is also a state with one of the lowest commissioned solar power standing at .01MW. A couple of years ago, this number was at 0MW with .01MW being added to the grid in the FY 2016/17. SREDA has committed to installing a cumulative solar capacity of 2.5MW by the FY 2019. This is a rather small number against the solar potential of the state that stands at 4,940MWp Currently, 11 projects have been sanctioned with a capacity of .7MW with the state providing at least 90% of funding in case of these projects. By the year 2022, Sikkim has been set a target of 86MW of grid-connected power by the year 2022 as a part of the National Solar Mission. Currently, SREDA is pursuing installation of 7.5MW of rooftop solar projects and 10MW of ground-based solar power plants. MNRE and the central government has proposed to proved up to 90% VGF support to eligible projects on priority.
